Windows Live Movie Maker won’t open; error like “Faulting module name: aticfx32.dll”

I was having problems with Windows Live Movie Maker not opening lately. No error, just nothing happening when I would run it. I tried repairing and uninstalling/reinstalling but nothing helped.

After looking in the event log, I saw the above DLL in the error which made me think ‘Video Card’. So, first thing I tried to do was disable Crossfire and try and run off of one video card.

Worked like a charm!

Apparently, Windows Live Movie Maker isn’t compatible with Crossfire, and I’d hazard a guess it may have issues with SLI, too. If you’re having this problem and running two cards, knock one off and see if it helps.

Small Apps on the Nexus 10

I think I found a little workaround for tiny apps on the Nexus 10.

I was surprised to see that, with a screen so large, there was no way to stretch your apps full screen.

Go into the settings and click on Accessability.

Open Magnification gestures and turn it on

When you get into an app where everything is tiny…

Triple tap on the screen, then pinch-zoom until it looks good.

This is not a guaranteed fix, mind you. For example, Audiotools Sketch stretches okay for the main tools:

But, you have to scroll to see the top right corner where the tool switching resides:

I guess it’s better than nothing, though.
